Green Motoring

How can you adopt a more eco friendly style of driving?

Our tips to help include...

- Accelerate and brake smoothly

- Always use the correct gear

- Drive away within 20 seconds of starting your engine

- Avoid unnecessary use of your car's air conditioning system

- Drive at appropriate speeds - staying at or within the speed limit increases driver safety, plus reduces CO2 emissions and saves money on fuel costs

- Close windows at high speeds

- Plan your journey (don't waste fuel by getting lost and going the wrong way - plan your route before leaving). Avoiding congestion will also help to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions

- Ensure your vehicle is properly maintained

- Check your tyre pressures. Under inflated tyres create more resistance when your car is moving, which means engines have to work harder, so more fuel is used and more CO2 emissions are produced

- Remove the roof rack when not in use

- Remove non-essential clutter from the luggage compartment
