Fair Wear and Tear

To minimise refurbishment costs when your vehicle is returned at the end of the contract it is important to take care of your vehicle. For corporate contract hire drivers, these charges will be invoiced to your employer at the end of the vehicle's contract.

What is fair wear and tear?

Fair wear and tear occurs when normal usage causes deterioration to a vehicle, and is not to be confused with damage. As a member of the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA), Pendragon Vehicle Management follows the guidelines given in the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear Guide.

You can download a brief overview guide to fair wear and tear here.

Van drivers should also read the additional notes which can be downloaded here.

To avoid unnecessary end of contract charges, you should appraise the vehicle 10 to 12 weeks prior to return. This will allow time for any damage to be rectified. Pendragon Vehicle Management will inspect the vehicle at the end of its contract a few days before its collection, using the services of an independent inspection company.
