With more and more commercial vehicle manufacturers now offering electric alternatives to their hybrid and diesel staples, we take a look at our favourite electric vans that could be a great fit for any transitioning fleet.

The importance of a good van is immeasurable and finding the right van for your fleet is a key consideration for most businesses as you re-assess your current vehicles and move forward with your transition to electric. As EV registrations for businesses continue to rise, and more and more vehicle options become available, an electric van could be the perfect opportunity to cut running costs and benefit from current government incentives. But how do you know which electric van is the right choice for your business?

We have put together a list of some of our favourite new electric commercial vehicles slated for 2022 below, along with additional information and links to help you choose the right electric vans for your fleet operation.

Citroën ë-Berlingo

Citroen e-Berlingo

Range: up to 174 miles

Payload Capacity / Load Volume: 800kg / 4.4 cubic metres

The ë-Berlingo Electric is available with two specification levels, Feel and Flair XTR. Both are available with the M and XL body lengths, with five or seven seats and all include three driving modes, Power, Normal and Eco.

The electric battery is guaranteed for eight years or 100,000 miles for 70 percent of the charging capacity, and all models feature a 50kWh battery paired with a 136bhp electric motor for a range of 174 miles. It can accept up to 100kW AC charging, meaning it can be recharged from empty to 80 percent capacity in just 30 minutes.

Citroën ë-Relay

Citroen e-Relay

Range: up to 139 miles
Payload Capacity / Load Volume: 1,150kg / 15 cubic metres

This new Citroën ë-Relay is 100 percent electric and is available in three lengths, with a payload of up to 1,150kg on the Panel Vans, a volume of up to 15 cubic metres, and two battery capacities of 37kWh and 70kWh. The electric battery is guaranteed for eight years or 100,000 miles for 70 percent of the charging capacity.

When it comes to charging, you can expect from three hours on the 37kWh battery and from nine hours on the 70kWh battery. Rapid (DC) Charging on a public terminal up to 50kW can allow up to 80 percent charge in one hour.

Fiat Ducato Electric

Fiat Ducato

Range: up to 223 miles
Payload Capacity / Load Volume: up to 1,900Kg / 17 cubic metres

Available as a Van, Chassis Cab or Crew Cab, this electric van is sold with a three module 74kWh battery or five module, 70kWh battery. The smaller battery pack has an eight year, 100,000-mile warranty, the larger one is guaranteed for a decade and 135,000 miles. You should expect 50 minutes for the fastest charge up to 80 percent or just under eight hours if using a wall unit.

For the vans, there are three lengths and three height options ranging from 10 to 17 cubic metres, and it can weigh up to 1,900kg.

Ford E-Transit

Ford e-Transit

Range: up to 196 miles
Payload Capacity / Load Volume: 1,758kg / 15.1 cubic metres

The Ford E-Transit is the first all-electric van offered by Ford. Available as a van, double cab-in-van and chassis cab, as well as in two height variations, the E-Transit will offer up to 15.1 cubic metres of cargo space. E-Transit will be offered in two trim levels: Base and Trend. Base models come equipped with Ford’s latest SYNC 4 software, which includes voice commands, sat nav and over-the-air updates, plus a 12-inch touchscreen display, keyless start and heated seats. There is also an on-board modem to help owners manage, monitor and optimise their fleet.

When charging, you should achieve a 15 to 80 percent fast charge in 34 mins when using a rapid charging station or a full charge in eight hours when using a wall box unit.

Maxus eDeliver 3

Maxus eDeliver 3

Range: up to 213 miles
Payload Capacity: 945Kg

Maxus has two pure electric models, the eDeliver 3, and the eDeliver 9. The eDeliver 3 is available in a 35kW or 52.5kW battery configuration with a 120bhp motor, working in tandem to produce an impressive range of up to 213 miles. There are a couple of body lengths available; the shorter van has 4.8 cubic metres of space, the longer one 6.3 cubic metres. Maxus will also supply a chassis cab version, so you can bolt a tipper or Luton body on the back.

Maxus claims a 45-minute DC fast charge will give 80 percent battery, and you should expect it to take more than eight hours to recharge using a slow charger.

Maxus eDeliver 9

Maxus eDeliver 9

Range: up to 219 miles
Payload Capacity / Load Volume: up to 1,500kg / 11 cubic metres

Maxus claims the eDeliver 9, is one of the most powerful electric vans on the market with its 201bhp motor producing a hefty 229lb ft of torque. The van also has a trio of battery sizes (51.5, 72 and 88.55kWh). Fast charging times pretty much mirror the eDeliver 3’s, and like the eDeliver 3, a 45-minute DC fast charge will result in 80 percent battery or you can expect it to take over eight hours to recharge using a slow charger.

There are two body lengths, with 9.7 and 11.0 cubic metres worth of room in the back, and payloads range from 860 to 1,500kg.

Peugeot e-Boxer and e-Boxer Panel Van

Peugeot e-Boxer

Range: up to 139 miles
Payload Capacity: up to 1,200kg on Panel Vans

The Peugeot e-Boxer is available in multiple versions, such as a Panel Van, Window Van and Chassis Cab. Claiming quiet driving with fewer vibrations, the e-Boxer is available with 37kWh and 70kWh battery packs.

The e-Boxer's 37kWh or 70kWh batteries allow you to travel up to 73 or 139 miles respectively. Charging can be done in as little as 6 hours when using a 7.4kw wall box or just one hour when using a rapid charger.

Peugeot e-Partner

Peugeot e-Partner

Range: up to 171 miles
Payload Capacity / Load Volume: 800kg / up to 4.4 cubic metres

The Peugeot e-Partner is available now in both Standard and Long lengths and as both Panel Van and Crew Van options. With multiple specification levels: S Premium, Grip Premium, Professional Premium and Asphalt Premium, even the base level gets air-conditioning, cruise control and an 8-inch screen on the dashboard for controlling the various on-board systems. The e-Partner also reports identical loadspace volumes to the diesel version and towing capacity of up to 750kg.

Regarding charging, the e-Partner can achieve full power in as little as five hours through an 11kW wall box, or an 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes via a 100kW DC rapid charger.

Renault Kangoo E Tech

Renault Kangoo Electric

Range: up to 186 miles
Payload Capacity / Load Volume: 800kg / 4.9 cubic metres

The new Renault Kangoo E-Tech features a 121bhp electric motor which is powered by a 45kWh battery pack placed under the van’s floor and will be available in a choice of two wheelbase lengths.

Renault claims a maximum range of 186 miles and an Eco drive mode can be used to assist maximising range when the vehicle is carrying a light load. When connected to an 80kW DC rapid charger, the battery can receive 106 miles of range in around 30 minutes.

Toyota Proace City Electric

Toyota Proace City

Range: from 161 up to 280 miles
Payload Capacity / Load Volume: 800kg / 4.4 cubic metres

The Proace City Electric is the latest fully electric short and medium Panel Van offered from Toyota with one trim level and two wheelbase options available. The Proace City Electric has a maximum load volume of up to 4.4 cubic metres and 750kg towing capacity and will also fall under Toyota's 10-year warranty, making it an attractive option for fleet operators.

When plugged into a rapid charger, the Proace City Electric can achieve a 10 to 80 percent charge in 30 minutes, or when using a wall box, the 75kWh battery would be fully charged in seven hours.

Vauxhall Combo-e

Range: up to 171 miles
Payload Capacity / Load Volume: 800kg / 4.4 cubic metres

The Vauxhall Combo-e is the latest compact electric van offering from Vauxhall. The Combo-e Drive Mode Selector provides three driving modes, NORMAL, POWER, and ECO for maximum range and energy efficiency. Every Vauxhall electric vehicle comes with a battery guarantee of eight years or 100,000 miles for 70 percent of its charge capacity.

The Combo-e can reportedly charge up to 80 percent in 30 minutes when you use a 100kW fast charger, and can also be charged overnight using a wallbox unit, in just under eight hours.

Vauxhall Movano-e

Range: up to 139 miles
Payload Capacity: up to 2,100kg

Designed to comfortably meet the wide-ranging demands of business and fleet users, the versatile third generation Movano is available as a Panel Van, crew cab and chassis cab. With All-New Movano-e, customers also benefit from zero emissions-in-use running, low running costs, range of up to 139 miles and a top speed of up to 75mph.

The Movano-e reportedly charges from 0 to 80 percent in one hour using a 50kWh public charger and there is also a dual on-board charger for use at a variety of charging stations or to charge overnight.
