Visiting the House of Commons
Pendragon Vehicle Management have today been at the House of Commons with the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) to support the Road to Zero Report Card, and discuss the initiative with Transport Minister Rachel Maclean.
PVM are excited to be involved with the BVRLA’s presentation to the Government on our industry’s latest concerns and recommendations, to help ensure progress and acceleration in the right direction for zero emission fleets.
This presentation saw the BVRLA launch its 2021 Road to Zero Report Card, which provides a comprehensive analysis of the Government’s progress towards its Road to Zero targets, including concerns and recommendations identified by the BVRLA. The event was hosted in the House of Commons and attended by the Transport Minister Rachel MacLean and a number of BVRLA members, including PVM.
The 2021 edition of the BVRLA's annual Road to Zero Report Card not only assesses progress towards zero emission fleets in terms of EV supply, demand and charging infrastructure, but also for the first time compares progress for cars, vans, and trucks. The Road to Zero Report Card was compiled by sustainability consultants Ricardo, with contributions from a range of fleets and transport and energy stakeholders.
Key concerns identified include:
- For cars, the outlook for BEV infrastructure and supply achieved sees a positive evaluation with most fleet car segments embracing BEVs with enthusiasm, driven by a favourable tax regime, engaging new models and significant growth in the charging network.
- For vans, however, the growing concerns about a shortage of suitable electric vans is identified, as well as issues with public charging infrastructure for CV’s and insufficient government support in the form of grants and tax incentives.
- The largest concern identified is the HGV market. With the Government poised to issue a 2035 to 2040 phase-out deadline, there is however no momentum in this fleet segment with no phase-out delivery plan, technology roadmap, mainstream vehicles, or charging infrastructure.
