New Speeding Fines

Tough new punishments have come into effect in England and Wales today for the most serious speeding offences, with fines rising by up to 50%.

Drivers were previously charged 100% of their weekly wage, up to a maximum of £1,000, or £2,500 if caught on a motorway.

The new guidelines dictate that drivers caught doing 41mph in a 20mph zone or 101mph on a motorway, could be fined 150% of their weekly income.

According to a BBC report, 244 people were killed in crashes attributed to speeding in 2015 whereas a Brake survey found that 40% of UK drivers admitted they sometimes drive at 30mph in a 20mph zone.
